Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics 2019

This year it’s up to Venice to host the Palio of the Ancient Maritime Republics, a traditional competition on galleons with eight rowers among the crews of the cities of Amalfi, Genoa, Pisa and Venice. This event, now in its 64th edition, takes place in rotation in one of the four maritime republics.
On Friday 31 May at 6.30 pm the galleon procession will take place, which will see the historic boats parade with rowers and helmsmen in costume. Departure from Piazza San Marco to Riva degli Schiavoni.
Saturday 1st June at 10.00 am the ceremony of the Adriatic Twinning of the Festa della Sensa will be held with the cities of the Maritime Republics: Genoa, Amalfi and Pisa.
At 7 pm there will be the real competition: the boat that will cut the finish line first will be awarded with a gold and silver trophy made by the Florentine Goldsmith School that will remain in the hands of the winning city for a year, to then be up for grabs at the next Regatta.
